How much is a locksmith in Derby?

These are the prices Derby jobs start from, plus VAT. Dom, who runs Kingdom, attends Derby jobs himself. Most of them are repairs, so the lock and the part it needs decide the final figure, and you get a fair price, agreed with you before any work starts.

When the door is shut and the mechanism inside has broken, how hard it is to open, and the time and skill it takes, differ from door to door. We assess it first, then give you an honest final price within this range to open and fix the door. If the door has dropped and needs realigning, that is £20 to £40 + VAT extra, or £50 to £120 + VAT for a heel and toe adjustment, depending on how far it has dropped, whether the glass needs repacking or the hinges replacing, and how heavy the door is.

Choose your lock

  • Standard cylinder

A like-for-like replacement for a worn or broken lock

    £25+ VAT

    £30 total

  • Anti-snap cylinder

Resists lock snapping, a common way into uPVC doors

    £45–£70+ VAT

    £54–£84 total

    More

An anti-snap cylinder has a sacrificial cut near the front. If someone tries to snap it, the lock breaks at that cut instead of in the centre, so the part that works the lock stays in the door and cannot be manipulated to open it.

  • High security 3-star

TS007 3-star rated, the level many insurers ask for

    £70–£115+ VAT

    £84–£138 total

    More

3-star and Diamond cylinders come with anti-drill pins, special anti-pick protection and, most importantly, advanced anti-snap heads or cuts, with reinforced protection around the centre of the lock.

uPVC door repairs in Derby

Most of our Derby work is lock and mechanism repair, and the story usually starts with a handle that is hard to lift. That means the door has dropped. Keep forcing it and within six months to a year the gearbox inside gives up, the door can seize shut, and opening it then means drilling into the gearbox. Caught early, it is an adjustment and some lubrication. We see it most on estates built five to ten years ago, once the house has settled and the frame has moved, and on doors that face the sun, because uPVC expands in the heat and the mechanism dries out.

Most newer Derby doors run on ERA, Fullex or Lockmaster mechanisms, and the parts travel with us. Mickleover and Littleover keep us busiest, and we cover the whole city out to Allestree, Chaddesden, Spondon, Sinfin and Alvaston. Customers rarely need to call us back for the same fault. One recent customer had been quoted £320 elsewhere to align six doors, and we aligned all six for £240.

Derby prices, common questions

Are you a cheap locksmith in Derby?
We keep our prices fair rather than chasing the cheapest headline. A standard opening starts from £59 + VAT (£70.80), with no call-out fee when the work goes ahead, and the price is agreed with you before we start. Be wary of £39 or £49 adverts: a proper job costs more than that to run, so the price tends to climb at the door. One customer came to us after another firm quoted £600 and drilled a hole through their composite door that could not be repaired. We did the full job, with new handles, mechanism and cylinder, for £260.
My door handle is hard to lift. Can it wait?
It is worth sorting soon. A stiff handle usually means the door has dropped, and forcing it wears out the gearbox until the door seizes. A dropped door is usually put right by adjusting the keeps or realigning the door, which costs far less than a new gearbox. If the gearbox has already failed, the repair is £70 to £120 + VAT, agreed before any work starts.
The spring in my handle has broken. Do I need a new handle?
Not always. Where the spring can be replaced, Dom replaces it. Where it is built into the handle, a new handle is the fix, and by then the handle is usually worn anyway, so it is a good moment to fit a more secure one. You see the options and agree the price before anything is fitted.
What does a Derby lockout cost in the evening?
From 6pm, openings and lock work start from £70 + VAT, from £110 + VAT after 9pm, and from £190 + VAT for the first hour after 11pm. You hear the price on the phone before anyone sets off, and it is confirmed at the door before any work starts.
