How much is a locksmith in Lichfield?

Every figure below is a Lichfield starting price, plus VAT. Dom, the owner of Kingdom, covers Lichfield himself. On the city's older doors he opens without damage wherever the lock allows, and the price he gives you is fair and agreed before he starts.

Locksmith Service Labour

    Picked or opened without damage

    £59+ VAT

    £70.80 total

  • Opening by drilling

    £42 total

  • Lock or mechanism repair

Opening and fixing a failed lock or mechanism

    £70–£120+ VAT

    £84–£144 total

    More

When the door is shut and the mechanism inside has broken, how hard it is to open, and the time and skill it takes, differ from door to door. We assess it first, then give you an honest final price within this range to open and fix the door. If the door has dropped and needs realigning, that is £20 to £40 + VAT extra, or £50 to £120 + VAT for a heel and toe adjustment, depending on how far it has dropped, whether the glass needs repacking or the hinges replacing, and how heavy the door is.

Choose your lock

  • Standard cylinder

A like-for-like replacement for a worn or broken lock

    £25+ VAT

    £30 total

  • Anti-snap cylinder

Resists lock snapping, a common way into uPVC doors

    £45–£70+ VAT

    £54–£84 total

    More

An anti-snap cylinder has a sacrificial cut near the front. If someone tries to snap it, the lock breaks at that cut instead of in the centre, so the part that works the lock stays in the door and cannot be manipulated to open it.

  • High security 3-star

TS007 3-star rated, the level many insurers ask for

    £70–£115+ VAT

    £84–£138 total

    More

3-star and Diamond cylinders come with anti-drill pins, special anti-pick protection and, most importantly, advanced anti-snap heads or cuts, with reinforced protection around the centre of the lock.

Size and brand change the price. Your engineer shows you the options before fitting.

Locks for period homes in Lichfield

Lichfield is a small historic city, with a lot of older property in and around the centre, and that shapes the work. Doors that predate modern locks need careful repairs. Insurers often want period homes fitted with British Standard mortice locks and anti-snap cylinders, and Dom fits those while keeping the look of the door as close to original as he can.

A lockout on an original door is handled without damage wherever the lock allows, so a sound door survives the visit. Dom will also tell you straight whether an older lock is worth servicing or has had its day. The run from Burton is a direct one, so he can give you a realistic arrival time. He covers WS13 and WS14, from the city centre to Streethay, Whittington and Wall, with Burntwood next door.

Lichfield prices, common questions

Are you a cheap locksmith in Lichfield?
We keep our prices fair rather than chasing the cheapest headline. A standard opening starts from £59 + VAT (£70.80), with no call-out fee when the work goes ahead, and the price is agreed with you before we start. Be wary of £39 or £49 adverts: a proper job costs more than that to run, so the price tends to climb at the door. One customer came to us after another firm quoted £600 and drilled a hole through their composite door that could not be repaired. We did the full job, with new handles, mechanism and cylinder, for £260.
What does it cost to open a period Lichfield door without damage?
Opening the door starts from £59 + VAT for a standard lock, and on older doors Dom works without damage first. Drilling is kept for a lock that will not give. It costs from £90 + VAT, the door then needs a new lock, and he explains why before he goes near it with a drill.
Can Dom upgrade my locks for insurance without spoiling the door?
Yes, he keeps the look as close to original as he can. Anti-snap cylinders are priced at £45 to £70 + VAT. A British Standard mortice lock is priced once Dom has seen the door, because older doors vary, and the labour to fit a lock starts from £59 + VAT.
Will Dom service an old Lichfield lock or replace it?
Whichever the lock genuinely needs, and he tells you which. Putting a lock right is a repair, from £70 to £120 + VAT according to the fault. A replacement means fitting labour from £59 + VAT, with the new lock chosen with you. Either price is agreed before he starts.
