TS007:2024 Explained for Euro Cylinders and Security Hardware

TS007 2024 euro cylinders are covered by a UK security specification designed for replacement lock cylinders and the protective hardware fitted around them. For homeowners with euro-cylinder doors, the familiar star rating helps distinguish independently assessed security products from ordinary cylinders marketed only with general terms such as “anti-snap”.

Most people search for TS007:2024, but the standard has moved on slightly. The Door & Hardware Federation currently lists TS 007-1:2024 + A1:2026 as the current Part 1 publication for replacement cylinders and associated security hardware (DHF publications).

That does not make the 2024 terminology irrelevant. Products and certificates still commonly reference TS007-1:2024, while current certification records may now show the 2026 amendment.

What Is TS007?

TS007 was developed to assess enhanced security performance for replacement cylinders and the hardware intended to protect them. It is particularly relevant to doors using euro-profile cylinders, although the specification is not limited only to one cylinder shape.

The standard addresses attacks against the cylinder and surrounding hardware rather than assessing the complete door in the same way as a complete doorset standard. Secured by Design describes TS007 as covering replacement cylinders and associated security hardware used in the retrofit market.

For a homeowner, the important point is simple: TS007 tells you something about tested cylinder and hardware security, not everything about the entire door.

What Does TS007-1:2024 + A1:2026 Mean?

The naming can look more complicated than it is.

TS007-1 means Part 1 of the specification. The Door & Hardware Federation currently describes Part 1 as covering replacement cylinders and associated security hardware, while Part 2 separately covers mechatronic cylinders and related hardware.

2024 identifies the main edition of Part 1. A1:2026 means that edition has subsequently received Amendment 1 in 2026.

For a new security upgrade, current product certification should therefore be checked rather than assuming that any package carrying the words “TS007” represents the same edition or certification status.

How Does the TS007 Star System Work?

The easiest way to understand TS007 is through the star ratings used for cylinders and protective door furniture.

RatingWhat It Applies ToPractical Meaning
1 starCylinderSecurity-rated cylinder intended to be combined with additional protective hardware for the full three-star arrangement
2 starSecurity hardwareProtective handles or escutcheons designed to protect the cylinder
3 starCylinderCylinder designed to achieve the three-star security level without relying on separate 2-star protective hardware

Current BSI directory records show all three categories under TS007-1:2024: certified 1-star cylinders, 2-star security hardware and 3-star cylinders.

This gives homeowners two familiar routes: use a 3-star cylinder, or combine a 1-star cylinder with 2-star security hardware. DHF and MLA guidance both describe this three-star approach (DHF guide to TS 007).

What Is a TS007 3-Star Cylinder?

A TS007 3-star cylinder is designed to provide the highest cylinder star classification within the TS007 system without requiring 2-star door furniture to achieve the three-star arrangement.

That makes it attractive for retrofit work where the existing handles are otherwise suitable and the main objective is to upgrade the cylinder. Current BSI records show cylinders certified to the 3-star classification under TS007-1:2024.

However, the rating should not be treated as permission to ignore installation. A correctly rated cylinder still needs to be the right size for the door, correctly installed and used with suitable surrounding hardware.

What Is a 1-Star Cylinder With a 2-Star Handle?

The alternative approach distributes the protection between two components. The cylinder carries a 1-star rating, while an armoured security handle or protective escutcheon carries 2 stars.

Together, these provide the familiar three-star TS007 solution. This approach can be useful where the door furniture itself is being upgraded and additional physical protection around the cylinder is desirable. The BSI Kitemark product directory lists certified products in each category.

A 1-star cylinder on its own should not simply be described as equivalent to a 3-star cylinder. Its role in this arrangement depends on the compatible protective hardware around it.

What Does the BSI Kitemark Tell You?

The stars should be considered alongside valid product certification. BSI operates product certification records where the certified model, rating, standard and certificate number can be checked.

That matters because a product description saying “anti-snap” is not the same thing as independently certified TS007 performance. When purchasing security hardware, check the actual marking and certification rather than relying only on packaging claims.

The star rating also needs to relate to the exact model being installed. Certification for one product in a manufacturer’s range should not automatically be assumed to cover every similar-looking cylinder.

Is TS007 Only About Lock Snapping?

No. Cylinder snapping is one important reason homeowners look for higher-security cylinders, but TS007 is an enhanced-security specification rather than merely a label for one anti-snap feature.

DHF states that the standard was developed to improve resistance to different forms of cylinder attack. The current 2026 amendment also means buyers should look for up-to-date certification rather than treating a decade-old rating reference as necessarily equivalent to the current publication.

Avoid judging a cylinder from one feature such as a visible sacrificial line. The relevant question is whether the exact product has valid certification to the claimed rating.

TS007 vs SS312 Diamond

TS007 is not the only recognised security specification used for euro cylinders. SS312 Diamond, operated through Sold Secure, is another recognised cylinder-security route.

The MLA’s current minimum-security guidance describes SS312 Diamond cylinders as a significant retrofit security upgrade and also recognises the TS007 three-star approach (MLA minimum security requirements).

The standards should not be reduced to marketing claims about one always being “better” in every situation. If a homeowner is upgrading because of a specific insurance, doorset or security requirement, the correct specification should be checked for that property.

Does a TS007 Cylinder Make the Whole Door Secure?

Not by itself. A door is a system containing the cylinder, multipoint lock or lock case, handles, keeps, hinges, frame, glazing and other components.

A high-security cylinder cannot correct a weak door panel, damaged frame or failing multipoint mechanism. DHF also warns that a door’s overall security can be limited by weaknesses elsewhere in the doorset.

This is why, on a high-security lock upgrade, we check the whole door before treating a cylinder change as the complete security solution.

Does Home Insurance Require TS007?

Do not assume that every insurer uses the same wording. Some policies may specify particular lock standards or minimum security arrangements, while others describe requirements differently depending on the type of entrance door.

The MLA notes that TS007 and SS312 may be required by some authorities, but that is not the same as saying every home-insurance policy mandates a TS007 cylinder.

Check the actual policy wording or ask the insurer when security compliance affects cover. No cylinder automatically satisfies every insurance policy.

How Do You Check What Is Fitted?

Look at the external or internal face of the cylinder for the certification mark and star rating where these are visible. Do not assume that three decorative stars on packaging alone establish certification.

The cylinder should also be checked for correct sizing and fit. If the existing hardware is unidentified, damaged or protruding excessively, professional assessment is more useful than purchasing another cylinder based only on its length or appearance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is TS007 a British Standard?

TS007 is a technical specification developed through the Door & Hardware Federation and industry partners, rather than a BS-numbered standard such as BS 3621. Products can nevertheless be independently certified under schemes such as the BSI Kitemark against the TS007 specification. That distinction matters when comparing markings. “British Standard lock” and “TS007-certified cylinder” should not automatically be used as interchangeable terms.

Is a 3-Star Cylinder Better Than a 1-Star Cylinder?

For a cylinder-only upgrade, a certified 3-star cylinder provides the complete three-star cylinder solution without requiring separate 2-star security furniture. A 1-star cylinder is normally considered as part of a combination with 2-star protective hardware. The correct choice also depends on the existing handles, cylinder size and complete door. The star number should not replace an inspection of the hardware already fitted.

Do I Need New Handles With a 3-Star Cylinder?

Not simply to create the standard three-star TS007 arrangement, because a certified 3-star cylinder can provide that rating without relying on 2-star security handles. The existing handles still need to be suitable, secure and compatible with the door.

Final Thoughts

TS007 helps homeowners compare independently assessed replacement cylinders and protective security hardware, but the stars need to be read correctly. A 3-star cylinder is one route, while a 1-star cylinder combined with 2-star security hardware is another recognised three-star arrangement.

Many guides still refer to TS007:2024, but the current publication is TS 007-1:2024 + A1:2026. That matters because security standards and certification records change, while older online guides can remain visible for years.

Before upgrading, identify the existing cylinder, check its fit and certification, and consider the security of the complete door. For a professional assessment and upgrade, see our high-security locks service.
