Key Stopped Working Suddenly in the Lock
A key that worked previously can stop operating because the key has changed, the cylinder is resisting, the connected mechanism is under load or the door has moved relative to the frame. Similar symptoms can come from different faults, so avoid forcing the key or assuming one internal part has failed.
First checks
Try an undamaged spare key. If the spare works normally, the everyday key may be worn, bent, damaged or inaccurately copied. If every correct key fails in the same way, the lock, connected mechanism or door condition becomes more likely.
Where it is safe and the door is already open, compare operation with the door open and closed. A lock that operates open but becomes difficult closed can indicate alignment or load. A fault that remains with the door open needs inspection of the cylinder or connected mechanism.

What not to do
- Do not add leverage to the key.
- Do not keep turning a key that begins to bend.

Extra force can snap the key or damage connected parts, making access and repair more difficult.
